Postdocs/ Group leaders

We believe that “embedding” young scientists and their start-up groups into a Transregional Collaborative Research Center is an important step to promote their scientific careers.
Therefore, TRR 54 supports young group leaders during the first years of their scientific independence and helps them to integrate into the national “research landscape” e.g. when returning from a research fellowship abroad.
The medical faculties of Charité Berlin and TU Munich support up to three junior research groups within the TRR 54 for a period of five years each with tenure track option, focussing on “Cellular Plasticity”, “Cellular Components of Tumor Microenvironment”, “Growth Conditions of Tumor Cell Populations” and  “Species and Model-integrative Systems Biology of lymphatic Neoplasias”.
Furthermore, the TRR 54 encourages suitable candidates to participate in the “Emmy-Noether Program” of the DFG, aiming to “embed” these Emmy-Noether groups as well as junior research groups of other funding programs into the TRR 54.
Successful young TRR 54 scientists are supported and mentored by experienced TRR 54 investigators to apply for own research proposals.
TRR 54 benefits from the high potential of young clinical scientists by four so called “Gerok” positions offering qualified substitution in the clinic for critical steps of a research project thus allowing clinical scientists to exclusively focus on lab work.

Graduate students

We consider scientific education of our PhD students as an important task in early career support of young investigators.
The education of graduate students within TRR 54 research groups is ensured through personal and individual assistance by experienced colleagues (Senior/Junior coaching) in the framework of structured PhD programs of participating institutions. Graduate students have the opportunity to rotate between laboratories of the TRR 54 (across locations).
Presentations of their results in English on internal meetings and international conferences will help graduate students to become discriminating scientists.
Most of TRR 54 research investigators are full time scientists, thus ensuring individual support and guidance for research-interested medical students during their thesis work.
